Dreads

So yet again I am going through a phase wtih my hair...I am just NOT happy with it...last night at the show...I saw so many people just happy and beautiful with natural hair (and before folks start to going OFF...YES you are HAPPY and beautiful with relaxed hair, my hair IS in fact relaxed! Natural OR relaxed your hair goes through a process...)

really its ME that's NOT happy with my current hair...I don't know why...but I am just not feeling it...so what to do...I don't know I want to cut it ALL off and just grow a bush and then some dreads...but can I got through that process am I strong enough...I don't know but its time for a change....maybe I will just wear it really curly...I don't know...

What you guys think?

well...you know I haven't had a relaxer in over a year now...I straighten it when I need or want a different look...or I do the sewn in weaves, etc...but I'm scared too. (FYI: this is a really deep subject..) but anyway, my moms went natural for the first time in 25 years...and she was scared too...but she was tired of the sitting, waiting and money that came with the African American Hair Salons (A whole other blog in it self) but nevertheless,

Evelyn did it...she wears a naturally curly bush...no dreads...and its cute. She loves it...my stepfather of course hated it in the beginnig..because his definition of beauty had been defined for him through images in TV, PRINT and then even in our own homes where young children are criticised by their own family members for having so called "peezy" hair and not having "good" hair...but he's learned to love it and accept the natural hair as beauty.

I think we all need to be re-programmed regarding our hair in the black community. I'm am so proud of the fact that Selah loves her braids and twists...and she doesn't even want me to take them out...

so I guess I've done my job of letting her know that beautiful hair can come in any way shape or form...their is no such thing as "good" or "better" hair...

Ok - I know this comment was extra...geeze...I need to get my own blog! LOL

NO I appreciate your comments...that's the thing, we HAVE been programed...I know my father is going to flip if I cut all my hair off but I am just tired of it...

Having your hair natural is cool, but I don't want sisters that think that they are "sell outs" or falling into the "system" because they have a relaxer...
That's the thing that I LOVE about us...we can do any and everything we want with our hair/ourselves...

You can have a sister with a relaxer who is more down for the "cause" and "mother earth" than a sister with locks...we are all different people...

But I just feel there is a need for a change, a release so to speak and a time of a change...mind, body, spirit...just all the way around...

If I could rock my hair like Queen Badu in the previous post I would...

Its just time for a change in my life, a BIG one...I new hair style, a move to another state, something!

Not sure if you're going to get this 'cause it's so late and you know I don't visit your blog unless you ask me too.....but if you feel you need a change then do it, regardless of what anybody says...including Pops....he'll get over it!!

Well you know that I was natural for a bit over 2 years and then decided to get a relaxer after much consideration. To me, it was harder to maintain natural than it is to maintain it relaxed. Black folks tend to have dry scalp and natural hair definitely gets dry just like relaxed hair does.

I mean I didn't see a big enough difference betweent the two states other than my salon bill being higher when I was natural due to me going to get it pressed, whereas, when it's relaxed I can roller set and style it myself. I could not do that when it was natural....not so well anyways. Also, ironically my hair was a lot longer when it was relaxed. I got a relaxer back in February and haven't had one since....but I will get one soon my friend!!!

But I say go for it, but be warned it is not EASY. Your hair may break off, if you don't cut it all off. You already know I didn't have to cut mine during my transitioning, but that doesn't work for everyone.

Good Luck!
