SongS of the Week:

Ok so this week, there are THREE, yes 3, songs of the week...one from every genre that I am digging right now...I don't know why but hey it is what it is...I couldn't decide on just ONE song this week...

I think the main reason I refuse to get ride of Comcast cable is because of MTVJams and VH1 Soul....I love hearing new music first via these music channels...

OK so here they are...

Up first is Robin Thicke: Lost Without You
I am slipping because I didn't even get his CD the evolution of Robin Thicke which came out last week...I like this video its simple, its sexy, yet its classy...him and the young lady in the video display a connection...and you can see the feeling of the song...well I went to Best Buy yesterday in Bowie and they were sold OUT of his CD which doesn't surprise me because they never order enough "soul" music CDs, same thing happened when I went to buy the Corrine Bailey Rae CD...I didn't get it until a week later...but anyways Robin gets his sexy on in this one...

Don't you just love that!

Up next is my man Lupe Fiasco: Day Dreamin (you all KNOW I think he is bringing HIP HOP back...*smile*) This one of my favorite songs...I love the symbolism and the word play in this song...the sarcasm...
The video is different, Jill looks classic, Lupe looks fresh...I just like the crisp look of it...the tribute, so to speak, to the old school classic record stores, true DJ stores...places to get that real music, real conversation, real talk....

"righteous Kung Fo" Holla

Last but not least are my home boys Gnarls Barkley: Gone Daddy Gone
You all already know how much I love these dudes...and the reason this is on the list, is because not only is the song HOT...but I love the concept of the video

Cause Im gone daddy gone....

Oh and here is an honorable mention:
Now I must admit that me putting this song on here would, at face value, mean that I like this dude, or more specifically, THESE dudes...I in NO way am a DIPSET fan...but I am feeling the latest by Jim Jones: We Fly High

and I don't get why I like this song...but I do...Oh My

Happy Monday...Happy Day of that dude that really didn't find nothing, hence the reason I am still at work, and I am glad that I am because I see NO need to take off....

I just so happened to run across it on one of the celebrity blogs that it was coming out on the 3rd...so I went looking for it and OF course the Best Buy around MY way didn't have it...it was just like CBR or any other soul CD...steal away honey!

Young I just listened to that Jon B...I mean Justin Timberlake...I mean Robin Thicke joint and it was off the chain. You may have just sold another album for him.
I don't really know about that Lupe video though. That song was already one that I question the relevance of so I was hoping for some sort of explaination in the video.

Young I just listened to that Vanilla Isley. . .I mean Robin Isley. . .I mean Justin Thicke. . .I mean. . . lol

Dude does remind me of the Ron Isley version of Vanilla Ice. :-)

Peace,
Kep.

After watching that Robin Thicke joint again I think that's his wife with him in the video. He's married to a black actress that is very fair skinned. I may be wrong but I think that's her...his wife is a banger (sorry ladies but she is...LOL)! Anyway, I went to go get this joint and they are sold out in Upper Marlboro too. They still don't have that new Justin Timberlake joint in yet either...what are these dudes doing to sell out like this. Especially since it's in predominately black areas. I bet they got plenty of copies of the Roots new joint.

@Dane-you silly

@Kep-I can't say who he reminds me of, not Justin, not Ron Isley, not Jon B...he has a really raspy voice though...I don't know...ummmmm Ok I can't call it

The thing is they don't actually order a LOT of those CDs (they do have plenty of Justin Timberlake CDs in Bowie's Best Buy) the Best Buy doesn't really invest in the "soul" or "neo-soul" department therefore they ALWAYS sale out because they don't order enough CDs...I am definitely going to get the CD for real..

@Dane-why did you question the relevance of the Lupe song? To me it reminds of the Roots "what they do" joint...just want a little clarity on that one...

I went to the Best Buy around my way and they didn't have it either! So it's the same in CA. It may be Best Buy's way of doing things. Or it could be the manufacturers. I don't know. I had to go to a more disadvantaged neighborhood to get Robin.

Where else can I go around here.....ummmm....let me think they might have it at the circut city in Largo or the one off Branch Ave....all I know is I needs that CD in my life right now...another GREAT CD is Eric Roberson's The Vault 1.5...

I wanted clarification because the song doesn't seem to have a point. I was hoping that video would show me something but it doesn't. I like some content with my lyrics....that's all.
Oh and when I referred to Upper Marl. that was the CC in Largo I was talking about. They don't have it either.

T.a.c.D said...

@Dane-well that sucks (but I figured CC over there wouldn't have it)...well I like random songs...sometimes songs don't have to have a point...maybe because I am all over the place sometimes so I can see how someone can be all over is all....but I feel you for the most part I like content...
